The Syrian refugees who have started a protest at Syntagma Square, on Wednesday, November 19th and escalated their struggle with the beginning of a hunger strike on Monday November 24th, have published an announcement with their demands, before the press conference they held on Friday, November 28th at noon.
The announcement, (in the photo) states:
WE, THE SYRIAN REFUGEES
have been at Syntagma Square since the 19th of November along with women and children
and have been on hunger strike for five days
we have seen our houses torn down
our loved ones beeing killed
our children getting maimed
our lives destroyed
we managed to get away from the atrocity of war
we spent months travelling, we found shelter in parks and the land was our mattress
WE ARE HERE
not to beg for charity
but to claim the self-evident right to life
WE ARE AWARE AND WE DO UNDERSTAND
that the people in Greece are going through tough times
that austerity Greece cannot handle the burden of providing hospitality to the victims of a war that has shaken our country and for which other countries are responsible.
WE ARE HERE TO DEMAND
the only viable solution for us and our families
the right to continue our journey and to be able to start a new life, in a new country, in some other corner of this world, with safety, freedom and dignity for us and our children.
from European countries to assume their share of responsibility for the suffering caused to the Syrian people and to welcome the refugees of war on their land.
that the Greek government begins the necessary procedures for us to continue on our journey.
the provision of travel documents and the consent of the European Union, for us to be able to continue our journey with safety and dignity without the fear of death and crime rings and the danger of arrest and imprisonment.
UNTIL THEN, WE DEMAND
from the Greek Government to safeguard the basic needs for us and our families: to provide us with housing, food, medical care and social support.
WE ARE ASKING SOLIDARITY REGARDING OUR STRUGGLE AND OUR DEMANDS FROM THE PEOPLE IN GREECE.
